Vintage 1982

How old does something have to be to be considered Vintage?  I think most vintage sellers would agree that you have Vintage, then you have Antiques, and then you have Older Than Dirt.  For an item to be considered vintage on Etsy, it must be at least 20 years old.  So 1982 is most definitely Vintage!

What do we remember about 1982?  Ronald Reagan was serving his first term as President of the United States.  The most popular toys for kids were Strawberry Shortcake, Smurfs and My Little Pony.

“Chariots of Fire” won the Academy Award for Best Picture.  We started singing with a little red-haired Shirley Temple-like girl after the musical Annie was released, and Anne Murray, a Canadian country pop singer, reached number 7 on the US Country Singles chart with “Hey! Baby!”  Prince Williams had just been born, and the Commodore 64 8-bit home computer was launched.  Aahhh…my first computer was the Commodore 64!

In 1982, the St. Louis Cardinals played against the Milwaukee Brewers.  The Cardinals won.  They say fashion goes in cycles, but I sure hope the big hair and the pleated-front jeans of 1982 are taken out of the rotation.  Believe me…some things just aren’t meant to stay in style, but then there are those classics from 1982 like this Oster Kitchen Center that sits on my counter.

It’s been 35 years since this Oster sat on a store shelf and all of the accessories still work perfectly.  The blender is used for the occasional milk shake or pico de gallo and the mixer…well, you can see what the mixer is used for.  Did those cookies make you hungry?  Get yourself a snack and something to drink so you’ll have plenty of time to browse through these 1982 Esty Finds.  Enjoy!

  1. What a fun article! I have to agree with you about the big hair and pleated jeans. Looking back, I wasn’t really crazy about the fashion of the 80s, but I sure love the music from the 80s – my favorite era for music.

Your cookies look GOOD! A fun way to start a new week…. Thank you!

  2. Love this article! Sure brought back some memories! I love the 80’s music as well, but the big hair definitely needed to go! How things have changed over the years and I can only imagine what my children & grandchildren will experience in their lifetime. Great job Mrs. A!!

  3. Mrs. A.,

Wonderful article…I have to agree with JP that the fashion of the ’80s wasn’t my favorite, but I too enjoyed the music.

I have the Oster Kitchen Center…a Christmas gift from my ex…Loved it then and still love it now. It does everything!

Thank you so much for including my Roly Poly Santa Tin in your 1980’s collection.

    • You are welcome for the include, Judy.

Anne Murray was singing long before the 80’s, but I really like her deep voice and actually have “Hey! Baby!” as a ringtone on my phone.

I was gifted my Oster through an Estate Sale in 1992. It’s wonderful.

    • So glad you stopped by, Redcurlzs! Oh my! I didn’t even mention the shoulder pads. Better put those on the list of styles prohibited from rotating through again. :o)

  4. Hey now!! I liked the big hair lol!! Not so much the pleated pants though. I agree, some of the fashions from the 80’s do not need to come back. 😉

Great blog post and the cookies do look yummy! Thank you for including Captain Kid with all the other fabulous items from 1982. Great blast from the past 🙂

  5. Linda, you are welcome for the include. Thanks for the kind comments on the blog post and the cookies. The cookies taste really good, too, so they don’t last long around here.

  6. What a fun article Mrs A! I’m so in agreement with everyone about the big hair and fashion choices of the ’80’s . I actually had a boss in the late ’90’s early ’00’s who could not let that ‘look’ go – she had the Big hair and wore shoulder pads in almost everything she wore – Yikes!!

Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane! 😊

  7. Great article Mrs. A. .. I have to laugh every time I see old pics of my hair from the 80’s & 90’s! I ask my husband why didn’t you tell me that is not good! LOL OMG those shoulder pads..hahaha forgot about those!

Thanks for including my tea pot!

    • You are sure welcome, Mary. Yes, I think we can all agree that some things about the 80’s weren’t our finer fashion moments. So glad you stopped by.
